Dr. Ashar Dhana is a specialist dermatologist. He treats both children and adults for a wide range of conditions that affect the skin, hair, and nails. He completed his medical training at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he graduated with the Health Sciences Merit Award. He has also been recognized as a distinguished graduate and alumni of the University of the Witwatersrand. After earning his medical degree, he completed a Master of Public Health at Harvard University as a Fulbright Scholar, Oppenheimer Scholar, and Horace W. Goldsmith Fellow.
Dr. Dhana then completed his specialty training in dermatology at Groote Schuur Academic Hospital and Red Cross Children’s Hospital, where he obtained his Fellowship of the College of Dermatologists of South Africa. He passed his dermatology specialist examinations with distinction and received the Jansen Research Foundation Medal for coming first in the country in the Part I dermatology specialist examination. He also completed the dermatology specialist examination from the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom. At the University of Cape Town, he obtained his Master of Medicine in Dermatology with distinction.
Dr. Dhana is currently completing his PhD at the University of Cape Town as a Fogarty HATTP Clinical Science Fellow and NRF scholar. He was lead investigator for the 2021 World Health Organization HIV-associated tuberculosis screening guidelines, which forms part of his PhD work. He has presented at medical conferences and published in several leading peer-reviewed medical journals including first-author publications in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
